ClassCraft is a Learning Management System (LMS) that is modeled on the kid popular Minecraft where role playing fosters effective student collaboration when students gain points for helping each other and for improved behavior. Parents have the ability to be connected and provide support from home as well through awarding points for work done at home. Some features are paid such as some of the interactive gamified features, but the basic free version is worth exploring. For all grade levels.

GoNoodle

GoNoodle provides easy brainbreak, physical activities--the teacher chooses stimulating or relaxing-- that can be implemented in 2-3 minutes in a classroom setting. While user friendly for teachers, it is visually pleasing and stimulating for students, helping them bring their focus back to the lessons on hand. 

Merlot II

Merlot II is a site with a collection of free online simulations, interactives, games, and lessons, many of which are innovative approaches to teaching abstract and complex concepts. Locating these free services, however, is a journey.

QuizBean

Quizbean is a great assessment resource for educators with features like the ability to take a quiz without using an email address, add unlimited questions, students get "instant score" during a quiz, add explanations to questions, allow students to view reports of what they got right/wrong, and more. An account is free for 3 quizzes and 26 students per year and, for educators, more for nominal fees. For all grade levels.

Doodle

Doodle is a web-based communication tool that allows you to send out a poll to see which dates work best for invitees and then to select accordingly. Doodle also connects to many calendar softwares-- such as Outlook, Google Calendar, iCloud, iCal, etc.-- so that the scheduled events can be added to a user's calendar. 

SignUpGenius

SignUpGenius is another great coomunication tool that is free. Like the others, it protects the privacy of people's contact information and will not require a person to sign up for the service in order to respond to the invitation. A teacher needs only add the parental contact emails, create the sign up email and set the settings to remind users of the event a few days ahead. Other handy features make signing up for Parent Conferences easy and reminders of events and what to bring automated. 

Socrative

Students can access your quizzes, warm-ups, and exit tickets from any smart device connected to wifi. For all grade levels.

Discovery Education Network

Discovery Education provides for free videos, lessons, virtual tours, puzzel makers and more based on Core Curriculum Standards and much more with the premium accounts. For all grade levels.

No Red Ink

No Red Ink is a web-based software that can be connected to a teacher's Edmodo account or Google account and creates student accounts without requiring an email address (a must for many students). Based on a Diagnostic assessment, teachers can create assignments and quizzes, that will be graded by No Red Ink, and target Common Core skills using your students’ interests. During 5-10 minute practice sets, students will receive support whenever needed and No Red Ink will track growth using color-coded heat maps.

Hopscotch

With the Hopscotch iOS app, coding is made easier. No typing or tricky syntax. Just drag blocks of code with your finger and play with what you make instantly. Also, users can make many things like their own games such as a new version of Geometry Dash, or a journey to outer space, create digital art. The possibilities are limitless. For grades 6 and up.
